About four years ago I was being interviewed by a news anchor from the local Fox News affiliate regarding a project I was a consultant on. Prior to the interview we had some time to chat off camera. I was very impressed with her understanding of the real issues and problems we are facing as a nation. She even understood what some of the solutions would look like. She is a very smart and well informed lady, definately on the cutting edge. I was more than impressed.
When I asked her why she didn’t bring up some of the critical issues we had discussed on her evening broadcast, her response was heartbreaking. “I need a paycheck and If I ever did mannage to get this information on the air, I would be history. One of the most difficult parts of my job is to sit there nite after night with a straight face and smile into the camera”
I suspect that there may be many journalists who understand Ron Paul’s message quite well and may in fact be closet supporters, but when it comes to the paycheck they generally will buckle under to an oppressive and controlling management structure that has anything but the best interests of our nation in mind.
I saw the segment you are referring to, when the commentator wished that Fox would be more fair and balanced. I suspect he may have been reprimanded and I would be very suprised if he ever makes the mistake of speaking his mind regarding the fair and balanced issue anytime soon.
For the owners of these media outlets its about the ratings, appealing to the least common denominator, and that free speech suffocating “bottom line”.
